Los Arcos is an attractive day trip destination in Banderas Bay, whether you are looking for a boat ride in the bay, scuba diving, snorkel, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. this scenic spot has everything to offer!
Due to its importance, Los Arcos was established in 1984 as a protected marine preserve. The name of “Los Arcos” comes from the granite formations that emerge from the ocean creating arches that serve as refuge, above and below, for an impressive biodiversity of sea and land birds as well as marine species such as parrotfish, blowfish, starfish, sea urchins, giant mantas, sea horses, octopus, sea turtles, lobsters, moray eels, huge schools of Jacks and more!
Los Arcos is a very recommendable dive site for both, beginners and experienced divers, with depths ranging from 20-1000 feet due to its location close to the shore but also near the Banderas Fault, the deepest point in the bay. In this preserved area, you can visit “The Aquarium” with a maximum depth of 25 feet which makes it ideal for beginners… the name speaks for itself, here you will see schools of exotic tropical fishes and more! Other dive sites in the area are “El Bajo de Cristo”, “The Wall” and, of course, if you are a passionate and experienced certified diver you MUST DO a deep dive passing through the Devil’s mouth and dropping in the mysterious “Banderas Fault” also know as the Devil’s Canyon allowing you to dive up to 140 feet deep. This is totally a challenging natural experience!
